Judah went for his 6 month check-up today, and it all went well with the doctor. He is amazed at how healthy Judah is, and said again what a good lookin' boy he is. (Smile, mommy heart!) 16 pounds, 3 ounces, and 26 inches long. He's almost able to sit up alone, and rollin' and scootin' on his belly all over the place. He is also moving on to Stage 2 foods (Thank you Aunt Kristen for buying us some of the food from the big city!) Anyways, he also had to have his shots and he has to be tested for lead poisoning because our house was built before the 1950's. He did okay for the shots, one in each leg. He screamed a little, but settled down quickly after each one. Then came the lab techs to draw blood. Judah is already a little fussy from being hungry, he's missing his big nap of the day, and he just had his shots. They put the tourniquet on his little arm and stick him on the inside of the elbow with a regular old needle, can't find the vein, and dig around for a little while, with him VERY upset the whole time. They can't find it, so they put the tourniquet on the other arm and feel around for the vein with their fingers (Thank goodness). They can't find it here either, but while they are looking, his arm turns purple and blue! They ended up having to do two heel pricks, where they have to sqeeze the blood out of his foot, talking the whole time about how he isn't bleeding and they hate having to do this. Every once in a while he lets out a real scream, but the entire time he has this look of complete terror in his eyes and has this unsettling gurgling, choking, gutteral type scream. I swear they worked on his foot for half an hour, apologizing the whole time. His little face turned so red, and then he got heat rash blotchiness all over from the pain and crying.
What was really bad is that I kept saying "It's okay, Judah", and things like that the whole time. After the techs had left, one came back in and said, "Umm... kept calling him Judah, but our paperwork says Henry..." I reassured her that he was the same person, we just go by his middle name. Shouldn't they have asked the first time I said it? It was so funny though, because all the nurses up front love him. They come walk down the hall to see him still, and last time one came in our room to see him again because he had smiled at her and she said it just made her day. Anyways, they all call him Henry. So they are all "Aww, Hi Henry!!" and Judah is just looking around like "who are you talking to?" He doesn't respond because to him, that's not his name! I guess I should tell them, but they will forget by next time, and when the paperwork says "Henry", that's what they'll call him.

Why do they try to get blood and root around for it? That should NEVER happen on a baby/kid, it bad enough when they do it to an adult! Sorry for little Judah! Hope he's already forgotten it!
